  • Bike Party Summit

7 personas están interesadxs en este taller.

    Bike Party Summit:

I'd like to host a gathering of Bike Party organizers from across the country to allow them to join Bike Bike and to ride East Bay Bike Party on Friday. On Sat, we could join the community breakfast and co-op tour, then break off to a spot like Eli's or Ghosttown to have a space to discuss Bike Party related issues. Hoping to avoid power point, or other corporate feels and to make this more organic. Format will depend on what I get for expected attendee numbers.

  • Building community through bike activism: several overlapping models

4 personas están interesadxs en este taller.

The East Bay has seen the birth of several different all-volunteer biking organizations in the last half decade which has led to a nexus of overlapping participation and leadership amongst them. We'll be talking about the benefits this cross-pollination brings to each: a strengthening of skills and overall numbers in each context, an unusual inter-generational reach, and a recognition of shared purpose that has benefited the East Bay in ways not limited to biking, but which centers around the use of bicycles as essential tools of community activism.

    Organizations to be discussed include:

    East Bay Kidical Mass

    East Bay Cycling Without Age

    Bicibús

BADASH (Bay Area Direct Action Support Hive)

    Neighborhood ICE Watch

  • Riding Outside the Algorithm: Bikes, Data, and the Cracks in Techno-Feudalism

Una persona está interesadx en este taller.

From Jan 2024 until 2025 I ran a small startup dedicated to gathering "microdata" on bikes and for bikes. I would like to share learnings about the state of bike-related data, how it relates to real world infrastructure and my experiences interfacing with bike activists, city planners, busineses and urban planning consultants. The main take aways are that the lack of micro data both limit bike adoption but also reflect a secondary economy that exists outside the purview of the techno-feudal lords. With the right tools and perspective bike activists can use this asymmetry to their advantage.

The Art of the Scraper: A 60-Minute Masterclass

Get ready to transform your ride into a rolling piece of Oakland culture. This 60-minute intensive workshop, led by the Founder and King of the Scraper Bike Team, Baybe Champ Stevenson, is designed to teach you the fundamentals of "Scraperizing" while empowering you to express your unique style.

Here is what you can expect during this high-energy session:

    Workshop Breakdown
    • 0-10 Minutes: The Heritage of the Scraper Baybe Champ kicks things off with the history of the movement. You’ll learn how the Scraper Bike Team uses bicycle customization as a tool for youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and community pride in Oakland.
    • 10-20 Minutes: Design & Color Theory Before the tape hits the spokes, you’ll plan your look. Whether you want a "candy" look to match a classic car or a vibrant neon patterns, Champ will guide you on how to select colors that pop.
    • 20-50 Minutes: The "Scraperizing" Process This is the hands-on heart of the workshop. Using the provided multi-colored duct tape, participants will learn the signature technique of wrapping spokes and wheels.
    • The Wrap: Learn how to apply tape smoothly to ensure durability and a sleek finish.
    • The Pattern: Discover how to create "spinners" and geometric designs that change appearance as the wheels turn.
    • 50-60 Minutes: The Roll-Out & Critique The workshop concludes with a mini "show and shine." Participants display their work, receive feedback from the King himself, and prepare for a group photo to document their new custom creations.
    What to Bring
    • Your Own Wheels: Participants are required to bring their own bicycle or at least a set of bike wheels to work on.
    • Creativity: Come with an open mind and a vision for your bike’s new identity.
    What is Provided
    • Premium Supplies: The Scraper Bike Team will provide an array of colored duct tape to ensure your bike is street-ready and eye-catching.
    • Expert Guidance: You’ll receive direct instruction from the pioneer of the movement, ensuring your bike isn't just "taped"—it's Scraperized.
  • Women & LGBTQ+ Want to Wrench?

5 personas están interesadxs en este taller.

A conversation and a beginners wrench session to build confidence for women and LGBTQ+ members within bike communities. We all get stuck on what we can’t do before we try to do something. My goal is to encourage people to pick up a wrench to explore their own abilities, connect with others while helping their community.
